The White House was a major renovation of an old Queenslander completed in 2020.

We started working with the owners of this beautiful “lift and build in” renovation in late 2019 when the search started to find the perfect canvas for this family’s forever home. One of our clients’ key criteria was location so we worked with the family to provide practical and honest advice on the different property options they found as they searched the market.

With two teenage boys, this family’s goal was to create plenty of space in the renovated home including ample entertaining areas for both special occasions and everyday life. With this in mind, the ground floor centers around the open plan living and kitchen area, merging seamlessly into the expansive outdoor entertaining area which includes a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. A single bedroom on the ground floor gives the option for use as an everyday rumpus room for the boys as well as easy conversion to a retreat-style space for visitors.

An enclosed internal timber staircase finished with blackbutt treads leads up to the family’s bedrooms all located on the first floor.

A parent’s retreat with an open-plan ensuite and walk-in robe, large study, bathroom and two additional bedrooms combines all of family’s sleeping areas away from the main entertaining on the ground floor. With much of the original timber home retained, lift and build in renovations like this one gives owners the opportunity to feature the character elements of traditional Queenslanders while breathing new life with modern finishes.
